Makarewa School is situated 8 km north of Invercargill on State Highway 6 and provides education for children from New Entrants to Year 6.

Makarewa School is very much a community school. It is the proud focus of a very supportive community. It is run by a skilful Board of Trustees and supported by a strong Parent Teacher Association. This is very evident in the resources that are available to the school. It has well maintained buildings, classrooms are very well resourced, a heated swimming pool, adventure playgrounds, and an all weather sports turf.

Makarewa School has built an outstanding reputation by providing an excellent education for its students and competing above its weight in academic, sporting and cultural activities. I am very proud to lead a team of highly skilled and professional staff, who is dedicated to providing the highest level of education for all children, in a safe and stimulating environment.

The school provides all students with excellent grounding in literacy and numeracy. Learning programmes are integrated to enable the children to learn within real contexts. We provide educational experiences where children work at their own level and regularly enjoy success. Makarewa children are encouraged to ask questions about the world around them and develop the inquiry skills needed to be successful in this ever changing world.

While the education of your children is the most important function of Makarewa School, we also aim to develop a well rounded child. In this pursuit the school works hard to offer a wide variety of extra curricular activities.
